Introduction

Timothy Taylor’s is an independent, family owned brewery based on the Knowle Spring Brewery in Keighley. We have over 150 years of brewing experience and are renowned for the quality of our award winning beer. Our cask conditioned beers consist of Landlord, Boltmaker, Golden Best, Dark Mild and Ram Tam. From time to time we brew other beers such as our popular Le Champion, Havercake and Royal Ale.

A proud history of brewing

In 1858 Timothy Taylor began brewing beer in Cook Lane in the West Riding town of Keighley. He struck upon a successful formula and in 1863 set up and built a larger brewery at Knowle Spring, where the company has remained ever since.

The brewery remains in the Taylor family and is now the last independent brewery of its type left in West Yorkshire. This independence enables Taylor’s to survive as one of the few brewers still brewing true cask ales in the same way it has always done.

We can’t put the unique taste of Timothy Taylor’s beer down to any single thing. It’s the result of years of hard work, skill and doing things the hard way because we think it makes the difference. Taking extra time, care and pride in traditional, hands-on brewing, and making no compromises when it comes to ingredients.

All for that taste of Taylor’s.

Take a look behind the scenes with our Brewery Tour film to find out how what goes into making that unique Taylor’s taste and our beers so special.

The Brewers

Meet Andrew, Nick, Tom, Ewan and Gordon, our five full-time brewers. They personally oversee the brewing of every cask of Timothy Taylor’s. We think the human senses of taste and smell are still better than a computer when it comes to beer, so our brewers test every ingredient, and every brew is tasted at least three times for quality and consistency.

The Farmers

A beer is only as good as its ingredients, so our farmers are an important part of the Taylor’s family. We only use Golden Promise barley grown to our own unique specification, and we only use whole leaf hops of ancient varieties. They are challenging crops that demand an expert farmer. It takes that bit more effort and skill, but they think it’s worth it, and we agree.

The Draymen

Delivering Taylor’s beer is a labour of love for our Draymen, who travel the roads of Yorkshire and beyond come rain, sleet or snow. Our beers undergo a traditional secondary fermentation in the cask, which is key to their taste and clarity. Because temperature is crucial to this cask conditioning, we keep our long-distance drays at cellar temperature, so our beers always arrive at their best.

“Surprisingly good for a pub restaurant, lovely home made skin on fries to die for and they make the best home made chicken kiev I have ever tasted – watch out for the garlic butter squirting out!”
